A painting of a donkey, depicted in a realistic style, with one of its ears painted to resemble the clown face of Pennywise from Stephen King's It. Two pencils are placed on the painting, and a metal clip is at the top left corner. The artist's signature, "Jodi Hetting," is at the bottom.

We all know that one pet.
The one with opinions.
The one who judges your life choices from across the room.
The one who somehow became the main character of the family.

At Huemane, I create custom colored-pencil illustrations inspired by the human personalities we see in the animals we love.

Some are funny. Some are sentimental. Some are inspired by a favorite hobby, profession, sport, business, or inside joke. Others simply capture the expression or personality that makes an animal unforgettable.

Every Huemane portrait begins with photos and a conversation. From there, I'll create an original illustration that brings your pet’s characteristics to life through a distinctly human lens.

Because animals aren't just animals.

They're companions.
They're family.
They're best friends.

And sometimes, they're a little bit human.

Finding the Human Side.

My husband is a firm believer that you can't look at a donkey without smiling. When we built our home, I created two donkey drawings for our office—one for each side of the room. Mine wore lipstick. His smoked a cigar. They were a little ridiculous, completely full of personality, and somehow became the inspiration behind Huemane.

With a background in graphic design and fine art, I've always been drawn to artwork that can bring out an emotion or tell a story. Colored pencils are my favorite medium, and I love using them to bring ideas, humor, and characters to life.

When I'm not drawing, you'll usually find me spending time with my family, cheering from the sidelines, or dreaming up the next Huemane character.

My husband was right. I smile every time I walk past those donkeys. If my artwork can do the same for someone else, then we’re off to a pretty good start.

No AI. No filters. Just colored pencils, patience, and a lot of eraser crumbs.
Each one starts with a blank sheet of paper and a story.

Here’s a glimpse of one coming to life.
